From Classes to Pint Glasses: The Urbanaut Founders Story

In the heart of Kingsland, Auckland, Urbanaut Brewing Co. was born from the shared dream of three lifelong friends, Bruce Turner, Thomas Rowe, and Simon Watson. Their journey from schoolmates to brewers is one of passion, perseverance, and a love for great beer.

The trio first met at Rangitikei College, where their friendship was built on a mutual appreciation for creativity and adventure. Over the years, their careers took them in different directions, but their shared ambition to create something of their own kept them connected. The idea of starting a brewery wasn’t just about business, it was about building a brand that reflected their love for craft beer, community, and innovation.

Turning their dream into reality wasn’t easy. To fund their venture, Bruce, Thomas, and Simon pooled their resources and took an unconventional route when they bought, renovated, and sold a house in Auckland. The profits from this bold move became the seed money for what would become Urbanaut Brewing Co.

From the outset, the founders were determined to make Urbanaut stand out. Their approach to brewing focused on pushing boundaries, experimenting with flavors, and creating beers that appealed to both casual drinkers and craft beer enthusiasts. The brewery quickly gained recognition for its unique range of beers, distinctive branding, and vibrant presence in the New Zealand beer scene.

Since opening, Urbanaut has become more than just a brewery. It’s a hub for beer lovers, collaborations, and the local community. With a strong foundation built on friendship, risk-taking, and a passion for the craft, Urbanaut Brewing Co. continues to shape the future of New Zealand’s brewing industry, one pint glass at a time.
